N R Kamath Chemical Quiz 2016

10th edition of the prestigious Prof. N R Kamath Memorial Chemical Engineering Quiz, 2016 was presented by Mumbai Regional Centre of IIChE and organized by IIT Bombay on 12th March. Special gratitude to team Azeotropy – 2016, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay for their support in organizing this event. The venue of the quiz was Victor Menezes Convention Centre (VMCC), IIT Bombay campus, where the gathering was welcomed by Prof.


Sanjay M Mahajani (Convener, NRK ChEQ, 2016, Member MRC) who spoke on Prof. Kamath’s golden carrier and the significance of the rolling trophy. Rolling trophy was unveiled by Prof. Alpana Mahapatra (Chairperson, MRC, IIChE) and Mr. T L Prasad (Hon. Secretary, MRC, IIChE). Speaking in this event, Mr. Deepak Himatsingha, alumnus of IIT Bombay (Class of 1964) and student of Prof. N R Kamath, shared his glittering experiences which enthralled the audience. This is the first edition of NRK CheQ in which participation waved in from places outside Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Total 11 teams from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri had participated in this quiz competition. 3 elimination rounds were conducted by Prof. Sanjay M Mahajani, Prof. Alpana Mahapatra and Mr. Pratik G Bhagat (Members, Executive Council, MRC, IIChE).


Finally 6 teams were selected for the vivid and vibrant final round: IITB, ICTM, DMCE, BVCE, BATU and DJSCE. Eminent quizmaster Prof Sunil S Bhagwat (Immediate Past Chairman, MRC, IIChE) conducted the rousing final round. After a marathon quiz of almost 2 and half hours and a very close contest Datta Meghe College of Engineering, Navi Mumbai won the event by a very narrow margin of 69-61 from their closest competitor, IIT Bombay. ICT Mumbai secured the third position. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by the presence of almost all Executive Councilmembers of MRC, IIChE. The certificates were distributed in the hands of Mr. Sushilkumar (RIL). The First and Third prizes were sponsored by Toyo India and Second Prize by Lab India. The event ended with a highly enthusiastic and sporting note. NRK ChEQ 2016 is over with grand success, all eyes will be on NRK ChEQ 2017 now. Till then the rolling trophy will be in DMCE, Navi Mumbai and the legacy will continue.
